The Ministry of Lector
Let the reader be aware of the office he has undertaken and make every effort and employ suitable means to acquire that increasingly warm and living love and knowledge of scripture that will make him a more perfect disciple of the Lord.
Pope Paul VI
(upon restoring the role of lector to the official status of ministry)
We all have a vocation, secular or religious. We have all been called to perform certain activities in life usually linked to the skills or abilities we have developed. You who wish to be a Lector have a vocation, a cal to use your abilities and talents to share your love of the scripture with the people of Immaculate Conception Parish.
Since Vatican II, the laity have been allowed to share in the ministry of proclaiming the scriptures at Mass.
A Lector:
-
Has a deep love of God's Word and a desire to share that Word with the congregation.
-
Recognizes that scripture deepens your own prayer life.
-
Is willing to train and to prepare for the responsibility of proclaiming God's Word.
All Lectors at Immaculate Conception are trained in the essentials of good proclamation and proper use of a microphone. Pronunciation guides and workbooks are available to help you understand and prepare the readings. You must be in the 9th grade or older to be a Lector.
